Hummingbirds are the beautiful smallest birds in the world. Every bird lover wanted to attract the hummingbirds in their garden by using different ways. This article will list some of the best flowers, which can be grown in the eastern United States to attract hummingbirds.

1. Trumpet Vine

Trumpet vine is an ideal long tubular flower to attract hummingbirds. This bright flower with a lot of nectar can catch the hummingbird’s eyes from long distances. It’s a native plant of the southeast United States, but you can easily grow it in the whole country. Trumpet Vine is widely available, and you can find it in local nurseries. They can grow up to 40 feet and requires regular trimming.

2. Trumpet Honeysuckle

It’s another vine plant, which is native to the eastern United States. Ruby-throated hummingbirds love the red and orange flower clusters of this special plant. The benefit of the Trumpet Honeysuckle is that they don’t grow as big as the Trumpet Vine. The Trumpet Honeysuckle plant only grows up to 15 feet tall.

3. Red Cardinal Flower

This red flower is a perfect addition to any garden as its native in almost all the entire lower 48 states of the United States and eastern Canada. It provides vibrant red tubular flowers when in bloom. In fact, its long flowers rely on the hummingbirds for pollination. The partial sun with moisture is the best condition for the red cardinal flowers to grow. They only grow 3 feet at their mature age.

4. Beebalm

It’s a smaller size flower, which is loved by the hummingbirds to visit along with the bees and butterflies. Bee balm is a native plant in North America and the Pacific Northwest. Many colors of the Bee balm flower are available. This special flower is also known as monarda, horsemint, Oswego tea, and bergamot. They approximately grow up to 3 to 4 feet in their blooming season of July to September.

5. Sage

Sage looks very beautiful in any garden and attracts hummingbirds from long distances. Sage has many species, which can be grown in hummingbird gardens all over the country. They come in many sizes and colors, but the most common is the Salvia officinalis.

6. Rhododendron

Rhododendrons are incredibly beautiful and attractive for hummingbirds. It’s one of the ever-popular plants in the nurseries. There are many species of hummingbirds, but their most recommended species are found in North America. It’s too hard and can survive the cold winters. Many species of the Rhododendron can grow up to 10 feet.

7. Lupine

Lupine is known for its beautiful and long spikes of flowers. Many species of these flowers are available, and all are favorites of the hummingbirds. They come in different sizes and colors, so try to choose the best one according to your garden. Most of their variations grow up to 3 feet tall.

8. Columbine

Many species of the Columbines are native to North America. The unique look of these flowers is equally attractive for the people and hummingbirds as well. Usually, hummingbirds visit this plant first during the spring season. If you are living in the eastern half of the United States, you can go for the hybrid species of the Columbines. Most of their species only grow up to 3 feet.

9. Lily

Lilies also have many species, but the true lilies are only defined as large, and beautiful flowers that can grow from bulbs. These are the show stoppers for any garden. You can start with the Canada lily or Columbia lily. The first one bloom from June to July at 3 to 8 feet height. While the second one blooms from June to August and grows up to 4 feet.

10. Indiana Pink

It’s another perennial wildflower on the list, which is mostly found in low moist woods, ravines, or stream banks. Their long tubular red flowers are perfect to attract hummingbirds. They can grow up to 1 to 2 feet, depending upon their care and environment.

11. Fireweed

Fireweed is a flowering plant, which belongs to the willow herb family Onagraceae. These are known for their different names in the different areas, including the great willow herb, rose bay willow herb, and bomb weed. This hardy perennial can reach up to 4 to 6 feet in height, depending upon a lot of factors. The optimum period for the growth of fireweed is from July to October.

12. Red Hot Poker

If you are looking to attract the wildlife in your garden, red hot poker is the perfect choice for you, especially if you wanted a closer view of the hummingbirds. It’s an upright evergreen perennial, which thrives in USDA zones. The Red Hot Poker is a South African native plant with more than 70 species. They can grow up to 5 feet and attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and many more birds.
