If you live in or near San Antonio, there’s no subtle way to say this – it’s been hot, really hot, during the Summer of 2022. It’s been so hot, in fact, that several annual heat records could be established in the city before we hit Labor Day and begin easing into autumn.
During the 30 days of June, the Alamo City recorded 17 days of temperatures at or above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s an exceptional amount of hot days, particularly since summer didn’t officially begin until June 21.
It was also one for the record books, shattering the city’s old record of a dozen 100 degree days that were logged back in June of 2009. During the month of June, there was only one single day where the high temperature was below 95 degrees in the city of San Antonio.
With those June records, 2022 is on pace to be the hottest year ever in the city. Add in the lack of rainfall and soaring energy usage and it’s been a pretty tough summer so far for everyone in Texas’s second largest city.
What do experts suggest?
Experts suggest many ways for residents to beat the heat, all designed to keep folks safe when the temperatures become hot and unforgiving. This is particularly important for both the very young and the very old, people who are particularly vulnerable when it comes to extreme temperatures.
Options include remaining in air conditioned buildings, wearing loose fitting clothing and remaining hydrated as much as possible. But there’s also another option for folks in southern Texas who are experiencing one of the most unforgiving summers in recent memory – constructing and enjoying your own backyard swimming pool or visiting friends and neighbors who already have one.
