5 Signs You May Have a Termite Infestation

Are you hearing tiny noises from within the walls? Finding stray body parts in the corners of your home?

You might be the main character in a horror movie, but it’s far more likely that you have a termite problem in your home.

But how can you be sure that you’re dealing with termites and not a few lost ants? Before you call pest control, it’s a good idea to read up on the signs! Read on to learn five common signs that you’re dealing with a pest infestation.

1. You’ve Found Droppings

For many people, the first sign that termites have moved into the walls is the sight of termite droppings, which are also called “frass.” These droppings look a lot like wood shavings.

It’s possible that they might actually be wood shavings, as termites do drop some wood when they create small holes. If you see holes, that’s another sign that you might have termites on board. Holes mean tunnels, which means you already have a problem!

2. You’ve Found Stray Wings

Did you know that all termites have wings at some point during their life cycle? They also shed those wings after mating. If you are finding stray wings in the corners of your home, it means you not only have termites – you have mating termites.

If your termite problem has already progressed this far, the costs of termite treatment should not be an obstacle.

3. You’re Hearing Sounds in the Walls

Termites may be small, but they’re not silent. If you are hearing suspicious noises in the walls, your new houseguests may be having a great time eating your home from the inside!

Actually, the clicking or banging noises you hear are the way that soldier termites signal that danger may be near. By the time you hear sounds, consider calling your pest control company and giving them something to worry about!

4. You’ve Noticed Changes in Your Wood

Termites are tiny moisture-producing factories. Where they go, wood tends to warp. If you’ve noticed that you’re struggling to close your doors, or that window frames have expanded, you may have a termite problem.

You might also notice that your walls themselves seem warped. If you touch a strange spot and there’s only paint left, termites have probably consumed the wood beneath it! Termites don’t eat paint, so it can actually take some time before people notice that their wall is nearly gone!

These changes may be due to humidity or unrelated structural damage.  A pest control service can confirm that these anomalies are signs of termites.

5. You’ve Seen Termites!

Lucky people might not know what a termite looks like, and might be unsure that they have seen one. The average termite resembles a tiny white ant. Termites do have wings at certain stages in their life cycle, but if you are seeing them inside, you are more likely to see them after they have shed.

If you’ve seen flying termites outside, however, that is also a sign of a problem. It’s time to look up “pest control near me” and pursue pest extermination!

Are You Ready to Call Pest Control?

If you’ve noticed any of these signs, then it’s definitely time to call pest control! A pest control service that specializes in termites will happily assess your situation and help you create a plan!
