You have always dreamed of having a lush lawn that is soft and inviting to walk on barefoot. However, you live in an arid area and your lawn is usually dry, brown, and dead. It is simply too dry and the sun is too strong to have a lush lawn it seems. Should you give up? Not in the slightest.
You may not have the lawn that you have always dreamed about but you can have a yard that you are excited to spend time in. it just needs to be dealt with in a special way to work with nature in the area instead of against it. In this article, we will go over several of the ways that you can have a nice lawn even in a dry and arid area.
1. Install artificial turf
One of the best ways to ensure that your lawn doesn’t ever die and is always green is to install artificial turf. It has come a long way and looks much more natural than ever. Many people remember the turf from their days in high school on the football field that was rough and hard. These days they have a base layer that is softer than soil and the fibers of grass are long and soft.
Another benefit is that it doesn’t heat up like the old astro turf from back in the day. It can be 30°F cooler than the older versions and it is less likely to heat up the ambient area when it is hot out.
The maintenance is minimal and there is nothing that will die. In fact, it can even be better than grass since it is easy to clean up after your dog has done its duty on it. It requires no water, mowing, or reseeding.
2. Choose the right grass
You might not be able to get a thick, lush lawn if your area is particularly desert-like but you can still have some nice-looking grass. This is because there are lots of hybrids that will grow in harsh conditions and need very little water.
In fact, there may already be some drought-resistant varieties that already grow in your area that have been thriving there forever. There are others that have been bred to need very little water and still not get dried out and die.
3. Focus on landscaping
You can have a very beautiful and curated yard without it needing to have a lot of grass. Landscaping it will make it beautiful and not look out of place, particularly in an area that is very arid.
For instance, you can opt for some stone gardens around the property that are accented with some types of desert plants that look decorative. Cactus is another good plant to have in an environment like this and it even has some beautiful flowers when it does get some rain.
Look into plants that work for your area and combine them with some natural elements that work in your environment and culture.
