Four activities that you can do in your garden during COVID-19

COVID-19 has been a source of concern and caution for the entire population of the earth. While some people found it hard to continue working from home, others chose to embrace new habits to explore the quirks they always had!

One of the most common hobbies that people have chosen during lockdowns and social distancing is gardening. From growing herbs in a window sill to planting tomatoes in the yard, gardening supplies have been selling like hotcakes since the first quarter of 2020. Many people who used to leave the odd gardening chores on bank holidays, started to get things done as immediately as they possibly could.

When speaking of odd jobs, one cannot fail to count decluttering in the list. It is tedious and tiring, which has always evoked a sense of procrastination in our minds! Hasn’t it?

If you are planning to do something with your garden during the pandemic and happen to have a few skips lying around the house, then here is what you can do!

Kid’s Playhouse

Social distancing rules have been very challenging for children. They miss outdoor play and also their companions. But did you know that you can also use a skip bin to entertain your child?

You can set up a kiddie playhouse by turning a skip bin on its side. You can use a clean, spare skip or look for one on Find Skip Bins. Decorate the interior with kids crafts, add a few large cushions, some blankets, and a lot of toys. And voila! The playroom is ready! Putting the playroom in the garden will allow your children to absorb the sun and enjoy nature while going outdoors is not a possibility.

Terrace Gardening

If you have only grown a few types of flowers in your garden and our planning to try growing a few herbs and fruits in the same space, then you can opt for a skip bin. If you have some Lilly Pillies, Aussie Box, and Desert Flame growing in your garden, then you can also add some fruits without spoiling the scenery.

Take a skip bin of an appropriate size and decorate it with some twine and tassels. You can use the plywood slabs to divide the space in the bin and grow two or more plants that need little space in your garden. If you would like to add a few small herbs like basil or thyme to the garden, then you can hang a few smaller buckets on the sides of the skip and seed the herbs too!

Artistic Expression

Since art has helped many people stay calm and creative during the pandemic, you can also give it a try! Take an old skip bin lying in your house and try to repurpose it with things that are already available in your house. Let your creativity run wild. There is so much that you can possibly do with a skip.

You can turn the skip bin over and arrange stones around it to create a centrepiece for your garden. Install a mini fountain, and you get a house garden resembling those found in Architectural Digest! Or you can simply spray paint the container and use it as a higher space due showcase your potted plants.

Art is art!

You can even try to repurpose skip bins and make some sort of seating arrangement in your garden. It’s all about finding inspiration and getting started with it.

Organic galore

If you have spare time and are very keen to consume organically grown food, then you can try a hand at organic vegetation in your own home! Start a compost pit in an old skip bin or order some compost from a nearby store. And plant in the seeds that you wish to have bloomed in your home. From cucumbers to tomatoes, lemons to aubergines, you have the liberty to choose anything that you like!

Growing vegetables is a commitment that will make you scratch your head if you are not aware of the weeding and spraying schedule. We advise our readers to only grow items that they are sure they can take care of! Or else their efforts could go to waste!

Final Thoughts

This is not all! There is so much more you can do with skip bins of various sizes. From starting a garden spa in a full-sized skip to making a den for yourself, you can actually go crazy with your ideas when it comes to reusing and repurposing skip bins.

You can easily find them at Find Skip Bins, and get started immediately!
