How to Get Rid of Damp in Your Property

The presence of excess moisture in your property could pose a lot of problems. Other than the more common water damage issues such as flooding or mould, your home could be victim to damp. This type of damage is one that only grows with time, so you want to get rid as soon as possible.

The last thing you want is to have a series of damp patches ravaging your walls, so we brought tips for getting rid of damp in your property.

As with every other problem in the world, the first step in the process of solution is to locate the source of the problem. Therefore, before this guide can be useful, you need to locate the different signs of damp infestation, such as patches on the walls, rotting wood, mildew on the walls and ceilings, etc

Now that we’ve established the different signs of a damp infestation, it’s time to establish the different forms of damp elimination. Let’s proceed, shall we?

Guide To Effective Damp Removal

  1. Ensure Proper Ventilation

Damp infestation is mostly aided by the lack of proper ventilation in your household. When your home lacks the ventilation it requires, there is an increase in the humidity in the home. This leads to the presence of excess moisture in the atmosphere and hence, the presence of damp.

Therefore, open up the windows daily, whether you are cooking, washing up or washing clothes, always keep the room properly ventilated. This reduces the chances of damp infestation.

  1. Get Some Dehumidifiers

This is very useful for homes prone to excess humidity. In homes where clothes are mostly dried inside the house, a lot of cooking is done, or there is a lot of showering, the level of humidity is more than likely to rise daily.

The simple, inexpensive fix to this is the purchase of dehumidifiers. As the name implies, these are tools specified for drawing out excess moisture from the air, eliminating excess humidity.

  1. Eliminate Rotting Wood

One of the clearest signs of damp is the rotting of woods. This occurs as a result of excess moisture in the wood. So eliminating these rotten woods eliminates a chunk of the damp in the household.

  1. Get Rid Of Damp-infested Bricks

As your household bricks start to age, they begin to depreciate, and this often leads to the bricks becoming porous. This porous nature gives excess moisture easy access to your homes. Therefore, there’s no debating the need to get rid of old bricks.

One alternative, however, is the use of damp-proof paint to cover up these bricks but ensure you seek advice from London damp specialists before coming to a conclusion.

  1. Eliminate Excess Condensation

This is the root of most of the damp infestations that happen. Condensation happens in almost every part of your household, especially the kitchen and bathroom. The good news is that there is a simple fix for this.

Luckily, the elimination of condensation from your home can be made easy with the aid of an extractor fan. So, if you don’t have one yet, it’s time you did.
