You can use stencil decorations with paint, markers, floor stain, or almost anything else you can imagine. There are so many more DIY decorations you can create using stencils, that most people never think of.
If you are feeling crafty and are wondering how to create your own house decorations, then keep reading to learn 10 ways you can use stencils around your home as home décor.
1. Tile Flooring
Have some boring, old tile flooring in your home? Instead of making costly replacements, you can spruce it up using tile floor stencils.
Find a stencil design that fits the size of your floor tiles. You can either buy them or print out your own and cut them accordingly.
You’ll want to prepare the tile so that it will readily accept paint. Then, place your stencil carefully in the center of each tile, add the desired paint that is designed to work on tile floors, and let dry.
Once finished, it’s best to add a clear coat to protect the new paint from scratching off. You can add stencils to all of your tiles, create patterns, or just choose a few to add art to for a more subtle effect.
2. Bedroom Walls
Kids love having art on their walls. It’s one way to make their bedroom feel like their own, safe space.
There are so many different types of stencils you can use on kids’ bedroom walls to add some fun and flair. To make it feel bright and summery, try using sunflower stencils, palm trees, or other relaxing outdoor elements.
For a nursery, you can add stencils of nature, such as cute animals, trees, and sunshine. You can add name’s to the wall. Or you can create a mountain scene. Get creative in the kid’s bedrooms.
3. Home Office
Have a home office? Don’t let it be boring. Give yourself a motivating place to work by adding some character to the walls.
Add some productive messages to the wall. Or find some type of image that motivates you to work hard.
Maybe you long to spend more time mountain biking out in the hills. Scenes of mountains might be just what you need to see in your home office, to encourage you to get work done as soon as possible so you have more time to spend outdoors.
4. Make a Fun Playroom
If you have a dedicated playroom or craft room for your kiddos, you have to use stencils on everything to make space more fun. Use them on the walls, on the floors, and even on the table to make this room feel like a wonderland.
5. On the Fence
Backyard fences are often wasted. There’s tons of space on them, but they are almost never used as a means of decorating your yard.
Make the most of this extra space by adding some outdoor elements to your fence. This can include flowers, plants, animals, or anything else that would fit the theme of your backyard.
If you have a pool back there, stick with fun summertime, beach-inspired stencils.
You could also find an extra piece of wood you have laying around and turn it into its own piece of decor. Add some stencil designs, and maybe an encouraging message, and place it near the front door, or out in the backyard by your patio table.
6. Up the Staircase
Make it more fun to walk up and down the stairs by adding some fun stencils to the wall. Floral designs work well, as it’s easy to have them run the length of the staircase.
7. On Bedroom Doors
Give each child a special stencil on their door. This can include their name, or one of their favorite things like flowers, sporting objects, or animals.
8. On the Windows
Stencils also work great for adding designs to glass. If your front door has glass on it, or if there are windows near your front door, you can add your house number to it.
Or, you can easily add some holiday designs to your windows with Christmas, Easter, or Halloween stencils. Find a glass paint or frost that is meant for temporary use.
Christmas stencils work great in white. Halloween would look good in either orange or black.
You can even add autumn stencils, such as leaves, in multiple different colors.
9. On the Floor Boards
Have lots of old wood flooring in your house? Even though people love having wood floors, they can get boring after a while.
Maybe you can try adding stencils to a small section of your wood floors. Or add some designs that surround your dining table. Floral patterns or snowflakes can create a simple, yet beautiful effect in this space.
Don’t want to add stencils to your expensive wood floors? Well, add them to your welcome mat, then. Welcome mats often come with encouraging messages or jokes. Create your own using stencils.
You can keep the message simple, such as “All Are Welcome Here,” or you can try getting a laugh out of guests by writing something such as, “Like a good neighbor, stay over there.”
10. In the Bathroom
Bathrooms are also places where it’s okay to have a little fun with your decor. You can add stencil designs on the walls or cabinets next to the toilet so that they can be seen when taking care of business.
Or you can add some designs on the walls around your bathroom mirror. Again, using glass paint, you can even add some designs to the mirror itself.
If it’s a child’s bathroom, you can even include inspiring messages that you change from week to week.
Decorative Stencils Provide Unlimited Ideas
As you can see, there are so many ways to use decorative stencils around the house. This just scratches the surface.
And the best part is, you can always change them later on. They aren’t permanent. You’ll just need to paint over them in order to add something new.
