7 Tips to Organize Your Bedroom for a Better Sleep
 

Home is where you can wind down after a day’s hard work, it is the place where you feel most comfortable to be yourself.  Your bedroom is going to be your abode for a good quality sleep. So, your bedroom should be a calm haven and welcoming in all aspects to make your sleep a good one.

To make your bedroom a welcoming one, it should look visually appealing. The messy bedroom is going to be a total put off, which can ruin your sleep and may make you cranky the next day.

Follow the tips given below to make your bedroom a welcoming and comfortable one.

1. Paint your bedroom with colours conducive to sleep

You should paint your bedroom in shades of blue, yellow or green. These colours aid in making the room look calm and soothe your nerves and mind. These cool colours lower blood pressure and heart rate and help you in relaxing and sleep better. Painting your bedroom in darker colours, like brown, purple should be avoided as they are not conducive for good quality sleep.  

2. Organize your bedroom space

The computer or laptop, treadmill or any other exercising equipment are distractions that should be kept out of the bedroom.

If your bedroom is also serving as storage for items that haven’t been used for a long time and you don’t seem to use these items in a distant future, get rid of these items. You can sell them, donate them or discard them if unusable.

Ensure your closet is organized in an orderly way, the clothes should be sorted in a way that makes your morning streamlined, not in a haphazard manner. Having a closet that is well-kept closet gives peace to your mind and you don’t have to scramble for the things that you are looking for in time of need.

Even other furniture in the bedroom like nightstands, drawers should be arranged in an organized manner.

3. Kick out all Electronic Devices

There should be no place for electronic items in your bedroom, they are going to be potential distractions for your good quality sleep. You shouldn’t have a TV, laptop, tablets, gaming consoles, e-reader in your bedroom. These electronic devices are addictive and are going to be sleep killers.

Place alarm clocks away from the bed and turn them towards the wall so that you don’t look at it directly. Since you will be forced to get out of the bed to switch off the alarm clock, it also serves another purpose of oversleeping after hitting the snooze button.

4. Lights Out of Your Bedroom

Keep your bedroom as dark as possible, it is going to be of immense help in having a good quality sleep. Switch of all the artificial lighting in the bedroom, even the night lights. Invest in dark blinds, or heavy curtains to cover your windows that can stop outside light to reach into your bedroom.

If you can’t do without night-lights, go for red or pink bulbs.

If you sleep with smartphone close to you, have its screen facing down to eliminate any light that may distract you by incoming notifications.

5. Keep Your Room Quiet

Unwanted sounds can be a disturbing factor for your good quality sleep. These sounds can be from your neighbours, traffic on the streets and from your snoring partner, buy earplugs and if possible, sleep with the sound machine in the bedroom. Any inconsistent and disruptive sound is the sleep killer, the sound machine is going to be of help as it produces consistent and soothing sounds.

Set a timer to switch off the music if you are one of those who need music to sleep.

6. Keep Your Room Cool

Our body temperature drops slightly when we prepare for sleep. Studies have shown that if the temperature of the bedroom is set to anywhere in the range of 16-19.4°C (60-67°F), you should be able to get a good quality sleep.

You can have comforters of different thickness for the couples with different needs, one may like hot and another cold temperature. You can have an extra blanket if feeling chilly.

7. Have a Comfortable Bed

It is time to change your mattress if you are waking up with body ache, stiffness in back or joints.  All these issues can be because of your mattress is too old, ripped, or has holes or has lumps. You should use comfortable pillows that can help you to keep your head, shoulders and back aligned during the sleep.

You should buy a mattress depending on your sleeping position style, body structure. It should be made of fabric that works for your skin, can absorb moisture. Buy a mattress that is allergen-proof if you suffer from dust allergies.
