10 Helpful tips to prepare for home roof replacement

Getting a new roof is a very exciting prospect to look forward to. But that also means that your home will become a workplace for a certain period, which can be a major problem if you aren’t adequately prepared.

While the workers will try their best to make the process stress-free, you can still take safety precautions to protect your property.

10 helpful tips we have gathered for you to prepare for your home roof replacement are as follows:

1. Think about the inhabitants:

While pets or children may be curious to see how the roofing process is done, it’s dangerous and noisy construction work. So you have to decide if you want to move yourself and your family away while the work is done or stay in.

2. Relocate your vehicles:

This precaution should be taken not only to protect your vehicles from damage but also to make space for the workers. The workers will be needing their tools as handily as possible so keeping the garage space empty will help them a lot.

3. Removing wall decorations:

When a roof is under replacement, the vibrations and bangs from hammers can cause wall decor to fall off. So it’d be wise to remove wall decor like frames, mirrors, etc for the period.

4. Protect your Attic:

Of course, a roof replacement means numerous people will be walking on the roof, hammers will be used, dust will collect, etc. So it would be best to cover the items with old clothes and be prepared for vacuuming later on. It is also advisable to secure windows with boards to prevent them from breaking.

5. Clear out your patio and yard:

To not have your furniture or belongings damaged, it is best to remove them from the patio and yard for the period of construction.

6. Pruning and cutting the greenery:

It is best to trim down overgrown branches of trees to make sure that they do not obstruct the construction work. Cutting the lawn grass down to a short length is also ideal for cleaning post-construction.

7. Remove Antennas and Satellite dishes:

Any antennas or satellite dishes installed on the roof should be removed before construction by contacting the providers. They will remove the item for the time being and reinstall it after the roof replacement.

8. Identify accessible power outlets:

When using their tools, roofers will need a power outlet. It is best if an exterior outlet is available to do so but a garage outlet is the second best choice at hand.

9. Let your neighbors know:

Construction work is a noisy and lengthy process. So, let your neighbors know the timeframe and they will be thankful for it as they can shift their schedules around it.

10. Be aware:

Construction creates unexpected obstacles, so be prepared mentally and physically to face them. Lastly, make sure to talk to your roofers beforehand and get to know the process of your roof repair team by communicating with them.

By following these precautions, you can be prepared for your home roof replacement without any hesitation!
