The debate surrounding the colors of internal doors is not a new one.
The answer to this varies from interior designer to area, to fashion trends, day and age etc. In fact, there is perhaps very little that people can agree on when it comes to the colors one must use for internal doors.
To best decide what colours would go best for an interior door in your house, here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. The size of the room
Smaller rooms will automatically look more closed in and tiny when the door is painted a darker color. In fact, such rooms should employ the use of lighter tones on the walls and on the door to make the room appear more extensive and more spacious.
2. The color of the walls
If the room is already painted in a particular color, then it is always best to not use the exact same paint on the door. This can give a very monotone look, which often does not do justice to the interior.
A good idea, in that case, is to either do a contrasting door or do a lighter or darker shade of the same colour used on the walls. Both of these techniques allow for the door to set itself apart from the interior but also ensure that it does not become the focal point of a room.
3. The door’s architecture
Some doors are extremely simple, and some have sleek and intricate patterns and panels etc. that make it more distinct. The colour chosen for the door will be based on what sort of door it is. For a simple door, for example, it would be easy to go for any colour and just use a semi-gloss paint over it. With a door that has more intricacy, it can be played around with and the colours used can be a little more experimental as well.
4. The door’s placement
If the internal door is in an area that is often frequented, and where it actually contributes to the interior of the house, then it is always best to make it stand out in a way that it falls in line with an interior. An accent color or a similar themed color of the interior works well with most households and their interior.
5. The style of the interior
With houses that are more contemporary, almost any colour can be used without it looking odd. This depends entirely on the interior of the house, and the area surrounding the door. However, with a home with a more traditional interior, a bright green door might be an odd sight that could take away from the appeal of the interior.
Colouring internal doors can be a difficult task, which is why companies such as Internal Doors have a wide variety of door styles. Each style can be used in different households and painted according to the interior.
